A New Approach to Cold Start in Peer to Peer File Sharing Networks

چکیده
ion—Solving free riding and selecting a reliable service provider in P2P networks has been separately investigated in last few years. Using trust has shown to be one of the best ways of solving these problems. But using this approach to simultaneously deal with both problems makes it impossible for newcomers to join the network and the expansion of network is prevented. In this paper we used the game theory to model the behavior of peers and developed a mechanism in which free riding and providing bad service are dominated strategies for peers. At the same time newcomers can participate and are encouraged to be active in the network. The proposed model has been simulated and the results showed that the trust value of free riders and bad service providers converge to a finite value and trust of peers who provide good service is monotonically increased despite the time they join the network.

P2P Network Trust Management Survey
Peer-to-peer applications (P2P) are no longer limited to home users, and start being accepted in academic and corporate environments. While file sharing and instant messaging applications are the most traditional examples, they are no longer the only ones benefiting from the potential advantages of P2P networks. For example, network file storage, data transmission, distributed computing, and co...
متن کاملA Distributed Method for Trust-Aware Recommendation in Social Networks
This paper contains the details of a distributed trust-aware recommendation system. Trustbase recommenders have received a lot of attention recently. The main aim of trustbased recommendation is to deal the problems in traditional Collaborative Filtering recommenders. These problems include cold start users, vulnerability to attacks, etc.. Our proposed method is a distributed approach and can b...
متن کاملA two-layer model for improving the energy efficiency of file sharing peer-to-peer networks
As peer-to-peer networks gather and share large sets of computing resources, their aggregate energy consumption is an important problem to be addressed, given the economic and environmental impact of energy production and use. This is particularly true for file sharing peer-to-peer networks, considered the vast number of nodes participating to these systems. To address such problem, this paper ...
متن کاملA Resource Exchange Architecture for Peer-to-Peer File Sharing Applications
A peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing network provides a resource sharing platform for Internet users. To increase higher-degree resource sharing, heterogeneous P2P file sharing networks need a way to collaborate and communicate with each other. Based on the approach of interconnecting heterogeneous P2P file sharing networks, users on one P2P file sharing network can share resources and search data...
متن کاملMobile Peer-to-Peer Networks: An Introduction to the Tutorial Guide
The main aim of this chapter is to provide the reader with a good introduction to mobile peer-to-peer networks and to demonstrate the motivation behind mobile peer-to-peer network development – the basic purpose of this book. Mobile peer-to-peer networks rely on direct communication among mobile devices of any kind. Even though today’s mobile communication architectures are mainly centralized a...
